The track, produced by Poty, is nice and Stess lyrically holds his own with Scudda and Stimuli. In fact, I would argue that his verse has the most emotion on the joint. Nevertheless, it's always refreshing to hear dope new music from my family. Shit, y'all know how it is when life gets in the way. Nevertheless, I'm not going to go on and on with a bunch of crying and excuses; just know that I'm back. In this particular post I just wanted to do the shameless self promotion thing and let y'all know my studio is now open to the public at a rate of $30/hour or a 4 hour block for $100. I have over 10 years of production/mixing experience and now have the perfect location to share that experience with the world. In that decade I've been blessed to make music with Vast Aire, Tonedeff, Beretta 9 of Killarmy, G.O.D. of Pitch Black, as well as a plethora of other talented artists. The equipment included in my studio includes an AKAI MPC2000xl, Korg Triton LE, an old school Crosley with over 1000 lps (for sampling), Sony Acid Pro 6.0, Wave Mercury Plug-Ins, a Behringer Eurorack UB1204FX mixer, a SM Pro Audio TC01 mic tube, Edirol MA10D Digital Micro-Monitors, Behringer Truth B2031A Monitors, and a Rode NT1-A microphone all in a professionally accoustic treated environment (no egg crates, real ATS panels, bass traps, etc). If you're interested in a booking a session with me shoot me an email at biglo@biglohiphop.com or call (850)728-1000.

Shuttlesworth > Jobs

Okay. Now that I've had a week or so to think about the deaths of Steve Jobs and Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth (in the middle of the pic to the right of MLK) I can hopefully put together this quick bite in a coherent way. Firstly, I don't want to take anything away from Steve Jobs. He was a genious. Yes, I own an iPod that I bring to the gym daily and with me when I travel. Yes, the Mac's are superior to PC's when it comes to creative endevours such as music, graphics, and video. However, it could also be argued that Jobs' iPod helped ruin the music industry and his iPad is killing the print industry, but I digress. The point of this post is how fucked up our media and our mindstate as Americans (and citizens of the world) is.

On October 5th when Steve Jobs died so did Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth. Unlike Jobs, Shuttlesworth was a leading civil rights activist and essentially MLK's right hand man. Unlike Jobs, Shuttlesworth was bombed twice, beaten unconsciousness, and jailed over 35 times all in the course of fighting for the rights of an entire culture. Unlike Jobs, Shuttlesworth was a strong Black man who sacrificed his entire life to uplift his community. Unlike Jobs, Shuttlesworth got no media coverage when he passed away last week...

Quite frankly, I don't know if I am more disturbed by the lack of coverage of Shuttlesworth's death in the media or the essential idolization of Jobs across the web. In fact, the lack of media coverage for Shuttlesworth's death is to be expected in this still very racist, neo-facist, republic. Conversely, what really erked me was that as soon as Jobs died a multitude of people in my Facebook and Twitter timelines changed their profile pictures/avatars to the Apple logo but nobody even mentioned Shuttlesworth (save for a few of my closest like-minded friends). It was so immensly disgusting that my mind was filled with images of Apple fan-boys getting tea-bagged by Jobs...The point is: Know your history and who the real heroes are. R.I.P. Fred Shuttlesworth, your legacy will live on my heart and actions!

Pensacola's Hip-Hop Night @ Sluggo's, August 26th

PEACE...It's going down again! It's been a long time since I've truly anticipated a project. In fact, "Click Clack Season Vol. 1" kind of takes me back to my youth when I would wait for Tuesday's releases and knew there would be some hot shit to cop. It takes me back to a time when I read The Source and would curse the editors for either having the wrong release date or giving an album 4.5 mics that should have earned 5. Nevertheless, "Click Clack Season Vol. 1" is finally here and I have to thank my official/unofficial New York promoter/a & r, Mr. Rah Black for executing this mixtape (although it is better to be called a well arranged compilation). As far as the mix itself, I am taking this moment to co-sign Scrapp who is fucking rediculous. On the joint "Kill Shot" Scrapp proudly exclaims, "The only blow you move is the candles on your birthday"...I love it. Also, that dude Big Lo (oh yeah, that's me) kills the joint "Inception". Moreover, Fuck Nikki Manaj, Kiko Cracks is the illest female emcee I've heard in a long time. On "Live at the BBQ" Reem the Visionary comes through reminicent of Capadonna in his prime. Junky Goods, Mel Funk, Breeze, and many others from NY's strong undergound do there thing as well. Actually, I think I may be the only non-NY emcee on "Click Clack Season" which makes being part of this project even more of an honor. Download it here now: http://www.mediafire.com/?d7d8ruchhkmmrp7

UGLE "The Perfect Storm" Mixtape

What's poppin' folks?! A whole lot here. A bunch of bullshit in my personal life and shows this past Friday and Saturday nights have delayed this post. Nonetheless, I'm proud to give y'all UGLE's "The Perfect Storm Mixtape" hosted by Mr. FX. Based on the movie "The Perfect Storm" the tape is actually a near perfect blend of joints for everybody. My favorite joints include "Mo Pain" where UGLE truly shows his lyrical prowess. I also fuck with "Pave the Way", "Music" and "Oh Baby" remix with Chris Brown. Actually, this tape has quite a few joints for the ladies, or in UGLE's particular case, his lady. Anyhow, he seems quite comfortable spitting for the fairer sex. All in all I give the tape an 8.5 out of 10. It's fire, there's just a couple joints I would have omitted. Aditionally, sometimes Mr. FX overdoes it on the intros and has the whole Funk Flex/Kay Slay thing going. You can download UGLE's "The Perfect Storm" mixtape right here: http://www.mediafire.com/?qua2u1pc2bgzqyw

Stop the Violence...GTFOH

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-08FdtUX_3NI/Tin_wJCwadI/AAAAAAAAALg/maP9lvLW_iY/s400/283117_237947019561524_100000386824327_785168_210968_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5632314011529800146" />
Guns don't kill people...people kill people! Recently in Pensacola there has been another outbreak of inner-city violence. Now, I'm not a fan of youth killing each other and I especially do not condone the killing of innocents. However, this supposed "committee" claims that if we are "not part of the solution we are part of the problem." Yet, they will fail, as always, to address the real problems that lead to inner-city violence.

Firstly, the schools in Pensacola are shit. The teachers are shit. In fact, the entire school district is shit. How does one expect to "stop the violence" when one cannot even get a propper education in Pensacola? Secondly, I have yet to hear any of these people bring up the problem of gentrification. You know, where wealthy people move into poorer neighborhoods driving up the cost of living and breaking up communities that are already in dire economic situations. Thirdly, where the fuck were all these "committee" people at when the police killed young Victor Steen? Oh yeah, they were too cowardly to confront the larger problems of police brutality and the rampant racism in the good old dirty south.

Essentially, my whole outlook is this: Instead of blaming the parents and the youth involved in violence in the community, why not channel that energy towards tearing down the racist, capitalist, modern form of mental and physical slavery that was set up to maintain the status quo? In other words, a system that was set up to keep those who are on the bottom, on the bottom. Fight back against the schools. Fight back against law enforcement. Learn how to defend yourself. Learn who your true enemies are. Be healthy...Then maybe the violence will stop.

PS...No, I will not be attending any "Stop the Violence" committees. Based on my music and politics I would be viewed as "part of the problem" and my attendance would only make me a hypocrite.

Hip-Hop Night @ Sluggo's, Friday, July 29th!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-P69PICdKWbM/ThHmUV72iBI/AAAAAAAAALY/F_s2_GrUnyk/s400/July29thWeb.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5625530646722414610" />
PEACE...It's going down again folks! No, it's not for her "meat dress" - a rather large waste of perfectly edible steaks - but for her "We Pray for Japan" wristband. According to Fox 2 News in Detroit, Lady Gaga, who closely resembles a transvestite, has been selling her "We Pray for Japan" wristbands for $5 plus an additional $3.99 for shiping and handling and another 60 cents for tax but refuses to disclose how much is actually going to Japan relief. Honestly, selling a stupid rubber wristband for nearly $10 is rediculous and the better way to help Japan is to donate directly through the Red Cross. Nevertheless, Gaga is being sued for racketeering and corruption and I personally hope the case is successful. Celebrities, especially ones who do not deserve to be celebrities, should be held accountable for their actions. Finally, if Gaga is scamming people for here own personal gain I hope she rots in Hell along with her pal Judas...

Breeze "Life I Chose"

PEACE...New York stand the fuck up!!! They were mad laid back and actually spent about half an hour talking with me. We spoke on a number of issues including where they see themselves now, AIDS and social issues, performing with a live band, the absence of Crazy Bone and Wish Bone, and so on. This particular excerpt covers their working with 2pac and Biggie amongst the heat of the East Coast/West Coast beef as well as their thoughts on the current state of HipHop. The entire interview will air soon on WMOB Radio. Here's the clip:
Interview with Bone Thugs n Harmony by Big Lo

Brown Recluse & LockOne "Life is Full of Shit" Mixtape

PEACE...Finally, back on some real HipHop shit! Honestly, no disrespect to the previous artists that I posted but R & B and Pop is not my thing. I just try and look out for my people. Now that that is out the way, I am proud to introduce to you Brown Recluse and LockOne's "Life is Full of Shit" mixtape. I'm not going to try and single out any joint that I think is particularly dope because I feel that this entire tape is dope from top to bottom. Ill rhymes and ill beats equals completely ill material. In addition, it is refreshing to hear HipHop out of Atlanta that greatly contrasts the bullshit Gucci i.e. obnoxious club/trap music that is typically assoiciated with Atlanta. Same old shit here. Oh yeah, did y'all hear? Soulja Boy is going to be playing Bishop, originally played by Tupac Shakur, in the remake of the classic film Juice. Now, I know what most of y'all are thinking. "What the fuck?!" "It's blasphemy!" yadda yadda yadda. But why not? I'm sure that 'Pac is a better actor than Soulja, but he is no more credible to play the part. Why? Let's think about it for a second...

'Pac attended the famous Baltimore School of Arts where he studied ballet and acting. (That's really thugged out!) 'Pac was then a roadie/back-up dancer for Digital Underground. (What's more 'gangsta' than that?!) Soulja Boy grew up poor, moving between Chicago, Atlanta, and Mississippi. (Is being poor some sort of HipHop prerequiset?) He then became popular off of YouTube and SoundClick. (Social Media genius maybe?!) Nonetheless, 'Pac's only 'real' credibility over Soulja is that he had proffesional training as an actor...

What's the point of all this? Well, first off, 'Pac is no 'realer' than Soulja. In fact, it could be argued that 'Pac was the victim of life imitating art. 'Pac didn't really take on his 'thug' persona until after he made Juice. Furthermore, we seem to forget that Bishop was a fucking dick in Juice. The character that we as HipHop heads should look up to is 'Q' played by Omar Epps. Yeah, y'all know, the aspiring DJ who was caught up in all of Bishop's bullshit. Now that's HipHop bitches!

By the way, I was and still am a huge fan of 'Pac's music and he is truly missed. I think Soulja Boy is wack and would never purchase his music which is more likely a sign of my age than anything. In otherwords, I don't give a fuck. I just like dope music, and honestly most of the shit I like is thugged out. That's neither here nor there. This is all about BK's Junky Goods' mixtape "Sitting on a Pile of Junk" hosted by Superstar Jay. The first time I got a copy of this joint was in October of 09 when I was in NY shooting my video for "More Like" and this tape along with Mel Funk's joint still get mad airplay. It's hard to say what joints I like best, but "Brand New Thangs", "These Streets is Crazy", and "Slow Down" are smashin'. Nonetheless, the whole tape is grimey. You can download "Sitting on a Pile of Junk" here for free: http://www.mediafire.com/?chde4303opk0024 Also, check for Junky Goods at http://www.junkygoods.com Yessir!

Hip-Hop Night @ Sluggo's is Back!

PEACE...I'm proud to announce that Hip-Hop Night is back at Sluggo's in beautiful downtown Pensacola. On the 1's and 2's will be your favorite fat kid, DJ Bodyslanga as well as Mr. No-Telephone himself, DJ 3D. In other words, this will be an uber-dope event. Sluggo's is located at 101 S. Jefferson St. in downtown Pensacola. All ages are welcome but you must be 21+ to enjoy adult beverages. Best thing, it's only 5 bucks. Doors open at 10pm. I hope to see everyone there.

Da Hitman's "Unique Styles 2K11 Vol. 4"

PEACE...So me and DaHitman have known each other for a few years now and I must admit, he is one of the illest mixtape DJ's I know. I'm not just saying that because I know him...the cat is most definitely fresh. Nonetheless, he broke "Inception" about a month ago on http://www.swurvradio.com/ which is Las Vegas' largest internet radio station and actually one of the worlds largest internet radio stations. Now, he blessed me with incorporating a somewhat remixed version of "Inception" on his latest Unique Styles mixtape which is hosted by none other then Poe Boy recording artist, Billy Blue. That's a good look. The entire tape is dope and features some ill 50 Cent joints as well as Nikki Manaj's Lil' Kim diss "Tragedy". I'm one crate digging, sample searching, Hip-Hop loving son of a bitch. Anyhow, J.Lo featuring Pitbull's "On The Floor" has been popular for quite some time now, but something struck me as familiar about the track. Maybe it was the accordian that sounded similar to the accordian in "Stereo Love"...nah, it wasn't just that. It was the fact that I've heard the joint in a Bollywood film (yeah I'm cultured like that). Nevertheless, I like J. Lo in "On The Floor" but I fucking hate Pitbull. He's wack and he's trying way too hard. He's a disgrace to all that is good about Cuban's and Cuban culture. But back to the sample thing...I found the original on Youtube and it's called "Sochna Kya" and it's by Ghayal. There is also an older Latin song called Lombada that sounds the same as "On The Floor" but is superior to "On The Floor" because it doesn't have Pitbull. Sure, digital photography is a necessary evil in this high-speed, technology driven, give-it-to-me-now, entertainment industry, but taking the time to smell the roses (or the fish in the case of this particular photo, shot at Joe Patti's in Pensacola, FL) can result in something truly amazing. Just the other day I did a shoot with my good friend Jason Nix, who among being a bad-ass photographer is a bad-ass cyclist and he decided to bring out an old school, box type camera and I believe he was shooting with 200 speed (maybe 125 speed) film. Nevertheless, the results were stunning. There is something perfect about the imperfections found in real film that no matter how many effects are added to a digital picture, cannot be duplicated. Now, if this track was wack I was going to clown...unfortunately, it was far from wack so there will be no funny business. In fact, this track was super ill and immediately reminded me of M.O.P. (By the way, M.O.P. is by far one of my favorite groups and "Ante Up" is still an anthem in my book.) I did some research and what do you know, Rockboy Gz are connected with M.O.P. Nevertheless, the joint is uber dope. D/R Period's production is on point as always. First of all, his music is super dope. Secondly, a lot of people assume that rappers don't have a sense of humor, but Mel crushes that stereotype. Often there are dope mixtape covers with wack music, but seldomly you find a dope mixtape cover with dope music to go along with it. Plus, who else has based there cover on the Garbage Pail Kids?! You gotta love it! Either way, download the mixtape for free here: http://www.mediafire.com/?dgobitdj7b82orq and check Mel Funk at http://www.darkageent.com and follow him on twitter @Mel_Funk

Steak & Blow Job Day...March 14th

As we all know, most holidays are geared towards women, especially Valentine's Day. Do it because you love him. Do it because he deserves it. Do it because it is only right. In fact, I site Wu-Tang as a major influence and I'm still a huge fan of Ghostface...but that's where my love ends. Sorry, that's just how it is. In the past I've had the opportunity to make music with Beretta 9 aka Kinetic 9 of Wu-Tang's sub group Killarmy. The joint "How We Do" got mad play and everyone I spoke to noted how I killed Beretta 9 on the track! By the way, I made the beat as well. Nevertheless, "How We Do" was featured on Beretta 9's mixtape, The Armory that was recently released with my verse cut off and no production credits...so much for integrity. Plus, who wants a Spanish kid from Florida to shine better than him on their mixtape?! Well folks, here's "How We Do" (the complete version) for free download so you can be the judge: http://www.mediafire.com/?d40rpc02bx6drxo

Sucker Punch...I Can't F***in' Wait

On March 25, 2011 "Sucker Punch" staring that extremely sexy Vanessa Hudgens debuts in theatres. Unlike most mixtapes there is absolutely no beat jacking and yes, all of the features are real. It features joints with Beretta 9 of Killarmy, Vast Aire, G.O.D. of Pitch Black, and more. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it...Real Hip-Hop.
